Princeton

I recently made the trip down the parkway to route 1 to drop my brother off at school, and once upon arrival on campus it was a nice day so we walked around campus for a bit. Once walking around campus and really looking at all the buildings it's a cool place. The buildings and quad look like a scene right out of Harry Potter. I don't know how many people have visited the campus, but I think it is something that is worthwhile doing. Although Princeton is a well-known university, I do not know how many people actually go and visit to just look at the architecture and layout of the campus. I feel if kids are not looking to go to school there, there is no point to visit. I have been several times and have a brother who goes there, and I would certainly not want to go to school there, but that has not stopped me from visiting and spending weekends with him there. I think as New Jerseyians it is important for us to know the history of this university and we should be proud of the fact that we are home to one of the most famous and highly regarded colleges in the country and world. Once again our state is defined by certain locations and landmarks and I think Princeton is definitely a place in which people associate New Jersey with which is a positive. We are always coming up with ways to why New Jersey is so miserable, but I think this university offers an appeal to come to the Garden State.

  1. I agree with Blake here in that we are constantly talking about the negatives of New Jersey, whether its the traffic, the "Jersey Shore" stereotype, or how people are always wanting to escape. I think it is important for us as residents of NJ to be proud of what our state has, especially its outstanding education. Not only is our state home to ranked districts, but it is also home to one of the most profound universities, Princeton.

  2. I went there for a debate tournament last year, and looking around, I was amazed at the intricate gothic designs on all of the buildings, and honestly, I was surprised that New Jersey could produce something so picturesque. I know about its reputation, but I always thought that a school of that beauty would be so foreign to a state that is tarnished by its reputation. Yet, seeing as though it has existed for centuries, New Jersey clearly has history in national universities, along with Rutgers, which was one of our country's first colleges. However, I think it is a continual theme that New Jerseyans are writing their own history, and that while Princeton may be historically important for the state, people don't put the university and the state together in the same sentence. Our state has established itself over the last century as a suburbian haven, and while we might have numerous educational institutions, they aren't our state's recent claim to fame.

  3. I have never been to Princeton but looking at these pictures it looks like a typical northeastern college. I visited other schools in the northeast and they have similar architecture, so when I went to visit schools in the south or out west I was shocked to realize they didn't all look as gothic as the ones in the northeast. Princeton is definitely an iconic school, with an amazing reputation, and is often overlooked when people are describing New Jersey.

  4. Princeton is one of my favorite college campuses. I've been to Princeton multiple times for squash tournaments and I always make time to tour around campus and town. The gothic architecture of Princeton amazes me, the ivy that grows on each building is definitely a staple of the school. College campuses with either Gothic or Georgian architecture always intrigue me. My favorite building on campus is Nassau Hall because of the two tiger statues outside. Go tigers.
