Over winter break, I went with my family to Mexico. Every year over December break, we travel to somewhere warm, except for last year; our hotel and flights were booked and we were ready to head out of the country when my dad suddenly ended up in the hospital due to blood clots throughout his body including a pulmonary embolism. So clearly, going on the trip was out of the question. Fortunately, I was able to venture to Florida with my friend, Paige, in February. Although it was nice to leave New Jersey for a while and see sunlight, staying with her grandparents was completely different than vacationing with my family. Our families are extremely different, and it made me appreciate all of the vacations I have taken with my family. So when this December rolled around, I could not wait to hop on a plane and land in a different country with different people, different scenery, different weather, and a different culture. However, I was glad to have my family there with me. Although we left New Jersey for a week, we definitely brought our New Jersey values of family with us. It is nice to get away for a week each year and experience other parts of the world and even the country, but eventually, we always end up back in New Jersey.
I know at the beginning of the year, we mentioned the fact that a huge percentage of those who grew up in New Jersey return to spend their adulthood, and this post totally reflects that. There is always the idea that other places like Florida and Mexico are more desirable (which is probably true) but we'll always feel a strange, twisted sense of home when considering the Garden State.
ReplyDeleteLike Alyse, my family also traveled this past break, but to Florida. I was looking forward to the warm weather and relaxation, but after spending a week in Florida my entire family was ready to come home. This shows that despite the desire people have to get a break from NJ once in awhile, they most of the times end up returning to their home town, simply due to the sense of belonging and comfort they have in NJ. However, I must admit, it certainly is great to escape the everyday routine life in NJ once in awhile.
ReplyDeleteIt is nice to leave NJ to go to places like Florida and Mexico, but as stated above NJ is always home. I prefer to vacation in state, Jersey Shore always a good time.
ReplyDeleteYEA BUDDY! CABS ARE HERE.
ReplyDeleteWe know NJ as our home, our comfort zone, and no matter where we travel, we are out of our comfort zone. Some places may be more comfortable than others, and while we may physically leave NJ, we know it as our one true safe haven. That could be true for any other citizen of any state, but for us it's NJ.
ReplyDeleteNice JShore reference there Mike. During the winter many travel to exotic locations, but i love Jersey THIS TIME OF YEAR!!!
